Reviving a century-old journey: Australian couple arrive in Iran with classic car

TEHRAN - An Australian couple, traveling in their classic Bean car from England to Australia, entered Iran on Sunday, recreating a tourist’s epic journey, named Francis Birtles on 1927.

Lang and Bev Kidby, who began their journey on April 1, from London, have so far passed through countries including France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Turkey, and entered Iran through the Bazargan border crossing on Sunday, May 12.

During their 12-day travel in the Islamic Republic, the adventurous couple will visit the historical, cultural and touristic attractions of cities such as Maku, Tabriz, Zanjan and Tehran, and after a one-day stop in the capital, they will head to Kashan, Isfahan and Yazd.

Kerman, Bam, and Zahedan are the cities that Lang and Bev Kidby will leave after passing through them, through the Mirjaveh border in Sistan-Baluchestan province, which is the most important border crossing between Iran and Pakistan.

In 1927, an Australian tourist named Francis Birtles, who was interested in driving and traveling, traveled from London to Australia with this Bean car and visited countries such as Iran along his route.

This adventurous Australian couple has now entered Iran after almost a hundred years since Birtles' journey, with the car now classified as a valuable historic vehicle.

Lang and Bev Kidby, supported by the Historical Vehicles Association of Iran, in collaboration with the National Safari Club will traverse through Iran, then through countries including Pakistan, India, Malaysia and Singapore and finally reach their destination in Australia.
