Transit of Iranian gas to Eastern Europe through Turkey possible: official
TEHRAN - Turkey is interested in buying more gas from Iran, said the director general of the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe department of the Foreign Ministry, adding that transit of Iranian gas to Eastern Europe through Turkey is possible.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 28th Iran International Oil, Gas, ?Refining and ?Petrochemical Exhibition (Iran Oil Show 2024), Mahmoud Heydari noted that in addition to providing important services for the country to ensure energy security, the oil and gas industry also plays a special role in Iran's foreign relations in economic terms.
“The Iran Oil Show 2024 showcases Iran's capabilities in the oil and gas industry along with creating a connection between those who are active in this field,” he stated.
Heydari pointed out that sanctions have created restrictions and noted that oil and gas can potentially play an important role in Iran's relations with Turkey.
Stating that the countries of Eastern Europe are gas consumers, the official added: “Iran is one of the main countries with oil and gas reserves which can supply the gas needed by these countries. First, the issues related to sanctions should be resolved with the political will of these countries.”
The exhibition has the potential to bring the will of cooperation between countries closer along with showing Iran's advantages in this field, it is possible to become one of the gas exporters to Eastern Europe, he stated.
The most important advantage of Iran in the economy is its huge oil and gas capacities, which also play a special role in the country's foreign relations, Heydari concluded.
In addition to 1,500 Iranian firms, a sum of 250 companies from 12 countries took part in the 4-day Iran Oil Show 2024, which wrapped up on Saturday, May 11.
