Envoy highlights Daesh-K as 'common regional threat'
TEHRAN- Iran's Special Envoy for Afghanistan has emphasized that terrorism, particularly the presence of Daesh Khorasan (Daesh-K), poses a significant external threat to Iran, Afghanistan, and neighboring countries.
Hassan Kazemi Qomi underscored the necessity of concerted efforts in combating terrorism, reaffirming Iran's solidarity with Afghanistan in this endeavor.
He emphasized the prioritization of anti-terrorism activities as essential measures in safeguarding regional security and stability.
Back on February 19, in a meeting held in Doha with counterparts from Pakistan, China, and Russia—Zamir Kabulov, Yue Xiaoyong, and Asif Ali Khan Durrani, respectively—Kazemi Qomi lauded the effectiveness of the regional contact committee in addressing issues impacting Afghanistan's security and stability. This acknowledgment came following discussions centered on shared concerns over the security, stability, and welfare of the Afghan people.
On a broader international scale, the UN-appointed Special Envoys on Afghanistan convened a two-day conference in Doha on February 18. The conference aimed to deliberate on Resolution 2679, which underscores a commitment to upholding Afghanistan's sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and national unity.
