Iranian students win gold medals in 1I1W Expo 2024

TEHRAN –A team of Iranian students have won five gold medals in different fields of research in the 9th edition of the '1Idea 1World' International Innovation, Design & Startup Competition.

The event, which is considered one of the biggest international idea and technology competitions in the world, was held in the city of Istanbul, Turkey, on April 28-29.

Organized by TUMMIAD, the Turkish Association of Inventors and Industrialists, the event serves as a platform for groundbreaking innovations in the realm of science and technology.

Participants from 24 countries including Iran, Canada, China, Taiwan, The United States, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates participated in the competition both in person and online to showcase their innovative projects in 10 different subgroups such as medicine and agriculture, IRNA reported.

From among 273 different innovative ideas, the top five ideas received special awards, with two of the awards going to Iranian participants.

1Idea 1World

Every invention and discovery that has changed and developed the world has been formed and evolved from an idea or thought.

'1Idea 1World' serves as a dynamic platform where brilliant minds converge, fostering a stimulating environment for scientists, engineers, inventors, and researchers to showcase their latest developments, introduce their achievements to scientific assemblies and scientific-research organizations at the international level, and prepare themselves to enter the world markets by obtaining information about the world's current technologies.

The 1I1W functions as a dynamic forum where preeminent scientists, engineers, inventors, and researchers convene to deliberate and showcase the most recent developments across diverse research domains. 

The aim is to transfer the knowledge, experience, and successes in the scientific world to future generations, and to introduce Inventors to the world.

Promoting cooperation between associations, inventors, and enterprises of various countries, inspiring creativity and innovation of potential inventors, and strengthening the global application development in the field of intellectual property rights are among the other objectives of the exhibition.

Other achievements

In Taiwan International Science Fair (TISF) 2024, which was held from January 28 to February 2, the Iranian team ranked fourth among 28 countries.

Mehrad Faridi and Ilya Haji from Iran competed with 41 teams during the five-day event which was hosted by the capital city of Taipei, IRIB reported.

Iran ranked fourth next to Taiwan, the United States, and Russia.

The robotics team of Iran won a gold medal and three silver medals in the Dubai International Inventions Show (DIS) 2023.

The event provided a business platform for inventors, manufacturers, and dealers to present their latest products and innovations and exchange information.

For this occasion, delegations from different countries came to Dubai to present their patented inventions and new ideas, the competition brings together many participants and inventions in many diverse areas.

At DIS, excellence in innovation is highlighted through the Invention & Innovation Award, it brings recognition to the best inventions, innovations, and trade, adding to its merit is supported by many international delegates.

Over 20 countries including Iran, Canada, Russia, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Romania, and Oman participated in the competition, ISNA reported.

The competition was held both in person and online.

In the face-to-face competition, the Iranian team won a gold medal for constructing a safety package and two silver medals for making a smart mug and skin protection application.

Also, in the online section of the competition, Iran won a silver medal by presenting a smart bag reminder.

Elite students from Iran ranked first in the UniKL International Robattle Competition (UIRC) 2023 and became champions in the category of Innovation.

The competition was hosted by Malaysia and held from December 10 –13, IRIB reported.

The event brought together more than 420 participants, under the age of 17, underscoring its widespread appeal and global representation.

A group of four students from the Iranian team was able to present the best design of the innovation league and was awarded first place in this section.

"The remarkable thing about the Iranian team was the strong participation of talented girls and their unprecedented brilliance in the competitions,” IRIB quoted Nader Nobakht, the head of the Iranian robotic teams, as saying.

The outstanding achievements of Iranian students in international Olympiads have placed the country among the top five nations in the world.

Iranian schoolchildren ranked second and grabbed six gold medals in the Second Open World Astronomy Olympiad.

The tournament was hosted by Russia at the Sirius Educational Center from November 14 to 22, 2023, IRNA reported.

Iran grabbed one gold medal and three silver medals at the 35th International Olympiad in Informatics, ranking seventh in the world among 91 countries.

The IOI 2023 was held in Szeged, Hungary, from August 28th to September 4th.

The Iranian team took five medals, ranking third in the 16th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics held on August 10-20 in Chorzow, Poland.

Also, Iranian students took six medals, ranking 11th at the 64th International Mathematical Olympiad which was held in Japan on July 2-13.
