TEHRAN- The Omani foreign minister denounced the destabilizing actions of the Israeli regime in the region, stating that the only option to reestablish regional stability is to put a stop to the war crimes committed against Gaza.

The most recent events in the region were addressed over the phone on Saturday between Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and his Iranian counterpart. 

The senior Omani diplomat denounced the Zionist regime’s destabilizing acts and emphasized that stopping the Zionists’ war crimes in Gaza is the only way to bring stability back to the region. 

Hossein Amir Abdollahian expressed gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman for taking a firm stance on the latest events in the region.  

The two ministers emphasized the necessity of international efforts to bring an immediate truce to the region, terminate the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza, and provide humanitarian help to the Gazan people.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks on Gaza have resulted in at least 34,049 Palestinian deaths and 76,901 injuries.

During a phone call with his counterparts from Turkey, Syria, Saudi Arabia, India, Qatar, Egypt, Malta, the UK and Russia, Amir Abdollahian reiterated Iran’s right to lawful self-defense.

The Iranian foreign minister has increased diplomatic efforts following Tehran’s military action against Israel in response to the Zionist regime’s attack on Iran’s consulate in Damascus. 

Amir Abdollahian clarified that Iran purposefully limited its retaliatory operation against the Israeli regime, characterizing it as a preventive measure meant to chastise and caution the Zionist regime.

Amir Abdollahian made it abundantly evident to the foreign diplomats that Tehran’s right to a legitimate defense and international law, as guaranteed by Article 51 of the UN Charter, were fully upheld by Iran’s armed reaction against the Israeli regime. 

The Iranian foreign minister reaffirmed Iran’s opposition to war and tensions, describing the Zionist regime as the primary cause of insecurity and instability in the region and advocating for coordinated measures to put an end to the Zionist regime’s atrocities and genocidal crimes in the Gaza Strip. 

He also said that Iran supports the development of security and tranquility throughout the region, spanning from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea, as well as long-term peace in Gaza.

In an interview with NBC News on Friday night in New York, he said that “what happened last night (Thursday night) was not a strike, and they were more like toys that our children play with – not drones.”

Amir Abdollahian also stressed that Tehran was not planning to respond unless Israel launches a significant attack.

“As long as there is no new adventurism by Israel against our interests, then we are not going to have any new reactions,” he said.

But the foreign minister warned that if Israel did attack Iran, the response would be swift and severe.

“If Israel takes a decisive action against my country and this is proven to us,” he said, “our response will be immediate and to the maximum and will cause them to regret it.”
