TEHRAN - The physical readiness of Hassan Yazdani, prominent face of Iranian and world wrestling, is uncertain for taking part at the 2024 Olympic Games after undergoing shoulder surgery in last November.

With about three months left until the Games, attention is focused on Yazdani and whether he will be able to compete for Iran and secure a valuable medal or not.

Yazdani has faced David Taylor, American wrestler, five times in the recent years, defeating him only once, which was two months after the 2022 Tokyo Olympics in the World Championships.

Many have raised questions about whether Yazdani, with his surgically repaired shoulder and months away from training and competition, can stand a chance against his powerful American rival in 2024 Paris Olympics or not.

Hadi Vafaeipour, who was considered a possible replacement and competitor for Hassan Yazdani, failed to win the gold medal in the 86kg category. His defeat came at the hands of his rival from Kazakhstan, who had always been defeated by Yazdani.

Now, it seems that Kamran Ghasempour might be Yazdani's main rival in reaching the Olympics. Ghasempour had an unsuccessful experience in the 97kg Olympic weight class, where he demonstrated that his strength does not match the world's elite in this weight category.

While some doubted Ghasempour's return to the 86kg weight class due to his weight, he has stated that he will have no serious problem reaching the 86kg weight category.

The coaching staff of Iran's freestyle national team is looking to choose the best Iran's wrestling talent for the Paris Olympics due to Yazdani's shoulder surgery, uncertain conditions, and Vafaeipour's loss in the Asian Championships.

According to the rumors, Hassan Yazdani and Kamran Ghasempour are set to participate in the Stepan Sargsyan Cup 2024 tournament in Hungary or the Sarkisian Cup in Armenia to determine whether Yazdani can experience his third consecutive Olympic appearance or not.
