TEHRAN – Following the Israeli air attack on the consular section of Tehran’s embassy in Syria on Monday afternoon, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian telephoned UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday to remind him about the responsibility of the UN as the most important international body as well as the Security Council in “protecting international peace and security”.

Writing on X, Amir Abdollahian said he had asked “proper and open reaction of the United Nations Security Council in condemning the recent crime of the Zionist regime in its terrorist attack on the consular section of our embassy in Damascus and the assassination of the official Iranian military advisors and Syrian nationals.”

The foreign minister said the UN chief condemned the attack and expressed condolences over the assassination of the Iranian military advisors.

“Antonio Guterres also referred to three concerns of the United Nations including the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, delivery of humanitarian aid for Gaza and the necessity of preventing the spread of the war,” Amir Abdollahian wrote.
