Milad Taghavi elected head of Iran volleyball federation
TEHRAN – Milad Taghavi was elected as president of Iran Volleyball Federation on Saturday for a four-year term till 2028.
In the elections held at Iran’s Academy Olympic in Tehran, Taghavi secured 61 of 67 votes cast.
Mahmoud Afshardoost came second in the election with six votes.
Taghavi, who was working as the federation’s secretary general since July 2020, replaced Mohammadreza Davarzani in the post.
There is a difficult task ahead of the volleyball federation since the men’s national team will likely miss the chance of reaching the 2024 Olympic Games due to poor results in the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Nations League and the Olympic qualifiers.
In late February, the federation appointed Brazilian coach Mauricio Motta Paes as head coach of Team Melli.
