Treasured collection of TMoCA on show for 2 months
TEHRAN-Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMoCA) has put on show a selection of artworks from its treasured collection to the public.
Titled “Above the Fields,” the exhibition was launched on Saturday, March 9, showcasing works by renowned Iranian and foreign painters, ISNA reported on Saturday.
It comprises 70 paintings from artists such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Jean Dufy, David Hockney, Ludovic Piette, Sohrab Sepehri, Abolqasem Saeidi, Parviz Kalantari, Jalal Shabahangi, Hossein Mahjoubi, Nasser Assar, Farideh Lashai, Ali Golestaneh, Manouchehr Niazi, and Reza Shahabi among others.
The exhibit offers a chance to delve into the connection between climate, nature, and artistic representation within a selected assortment at the TMoCA. Embracing a nature-centric perspective, the exhibit displays a substantial portion of the global visual art heritage.
Established in 1977, the museum has more than 4,000 items that include 19th and 20th century’s world-class Iranian, European and American paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures. Being the biggest collection of western art in the eastern world, it includes works from almost all artistic periods and movements.
The museum was designed by Iranian architect Kamran Diba who employed elements from traditional Persian architecture. The building itself can be regarded as an example of contemporary art, in a style of an underground Guggenheim Museum. Most of the museum area is located underground with a circular walkway that spirals downwards with galleries branching outwards. Western sculptures by artists such as Ernst, Giacometti, Magritte and Moore can be found in the museum's gardens.
TMoCA website contains images and information on a number of the artworks in the museum’s collection, and is accessible for public viewing.
Lasting for about two months, the ongoing exhibition will run until May 5 at the museum, located next to Laleh Park, North Kargar St.
