Official emphasizes role of public opinion in preventing Israel’s crimes in Gaza
TEHRAN – In a notable address during the “International Congress on the Occupation of Palestine in Light of International Law, and the Violation of Human Rights in Gaza," Abbas Ali Kadkhodaei, a member of the Guardian Council's legal committee and the head of the congress, underscored the crucial role of public opinion in preventing Zionists’ crimes in Gaza.
This congress, which was organized by the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), saw the presence of some 900 individuals in person and some 40,000 online participants from 21 countries.
During the congress, Kadkhodaei underscored the limitations of existing laws in deterring crimes committed by the Israeli regime, emphasizing that the potential to mitigate these atrocities lies within the realm of public opinion. He underscored the need for a global awareness of the ongoing situation in Gaza.
Reflecting on the ongoing situation in Gaza spanning over the past 150 days, he added, "The crimes perpetrated by this regime during this period have impacted all of humanity and placed the responsibility on the entire global community to defend the people of Gaza."
He further elucidated that the Zionist regime is involved in crimes unprecedented in human society. Kadkhodaei explained, "International law comprises a comprehensive system of principles and rules, with extensive discussions and literature in this field. The critical issue in this context is the weakness of human rights enforcement."
The president of Iran’s Guardian Council's Research Institute, acknowledging the unprecedented violation of international and human rights laws, commented, "International and human rights organizations, established with support from the same countries endorsing the Zionist regime today, have principles that run counter to governmental interests."
Kadkhodaei emphasized, "Now, the fundamental question is, how can countries be empowered with these laws? The solution lies in public opinion. Only public opinion can prevent these crimes."
Concluding, he underscored the profound impact of the crimes committed by the Zionist regime on humanity, calling for a collective responsibility from the global community to defend the people of Gaza.
