20mm Oerlikon Cannons among Iran arms showcased at Qatar defense expo
TEHRAN – Iran has showcased several domestically developed and produced weapons displayed at the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2024).
One of the featured weapons from Iran was the 20mm Oerlikon Cannons which lend themselves especially well to close-range operations where missiles can be ineffective.
Iran took an active role in the DIMDEX exhibition, presenting a range of maritime defense products such as naval vessels, weaponry, maritime communication facilities, and expertise in naval defense and related areas.
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) named ‘Gaza’ was also among several Iranian weapons displayed at the defense exhibition. Gaza is a medium-altitude, low-endurance (MALE) UAV, with a payload capability of 500 kilograms. The drone has satellite communication capabilities and has a maximum flight altitude of 35,000 feet.
The event is the eight edition of the region’s premier defense and maritime exhibition.
Iran has developed an ascendant military industry in the past decades. The country owns different types of precision-guided missiles, drones, and defense systems, all domestically produced.
Iranian military experts and engineers have made remarkable breakthroughs in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment in recent years, contributing to the armed forces' self-sufficiency.
