“Subversive Trojan horse” in Washington
Rifts grow within Israeli leadership as Gantz visits U.S.
TEHRAN- Cracks are further widening within the Israeli wartime leadership throwing a spotlight on the regime’s failed policy toward the war on Gaza.
Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz is visiting the United States and holding talks with U.S. officials in defiance of the regime’s premier.
Reports suggest that Benjamin Netanyahu has blown the fuse because Gantz is holding meetings with Americans without his approval.
Transportation Minister Miri Regev, a member of Netanyahu’s Likud party, has made a blistering attack on Gantz, accusing him of acting “subversively” against the Israeli cabinet with his U.S. visit.
Israeli Regional Cooperation Minister Dudi Amsalem also accused Gantz of acting like a “Trojan horse”.
Gantz joined Netanyahu’s coalition after Hamas’ October 7 attack inside Israel which was followed by the regime’s brutal onslaught on the Gaza Strip.
"Mr. Gantz, your participation in the government was aimed at creating unity at a time of emergency, not for you to be a Trojan horse,” he said.
Far-right minister Itamar Ben-Gvir also called on Netanyahu to consider sacking Gantz for insubordination.
Citing an unnamed Israeli official, the Associated Press said Gantz seeks to strengthen ties with the U.S., bolster support for Israel’s war on Gaza and push for the release of captives held in Gaza.
The administration of President Joe Biden has recently sharpened criticism of Netanyahu amid growing discontent in the U.S. over Washington’s military and political support for the regime’s war on Gaza which could cost Biden the 2024 presidential election.
On Sunday, Vice President Kamala Harris bluntly called out the Netanyahu cabinet for not doing enough to ease a “humanitarian catastrophe” in the besieged Palestinian territory.
In line with such critical remarks, the U.S. is airdropping humanitarian aid into Gaza, which has been criticized by aid groups as ineffective and a publicity stunt move.
As the Israeli public and opposition are exerting more pressure on Netanyahu for his failure to achieve his goals in the Gaza war, his popularity is also waning.
However, Gantz’s National Unity party has soared in popularity in opinion polls in recent months.
Polls show Gantz’s National Unity party would clinch 39 seats, compared with 17 for Netanyahu’s Likud party, if new elections are held.
So, the U.S. administration has opened up a line of communication with Gantz as it seeks to whitewash its failed policy toward Israel’s war on Gaza.
The Netanyahu regime has killed more than 30,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since October 7 and the U.S. is complicit in this war of genocide.
Netanyahu wants to prolong the Gaza war for his own political survival, while what matters to the U.S. is the survival of the Israeli regime.
Presently, it seems that Netanyahu’s days are numbered but Washington does not want to drop military or political support for his cabinet. This is because the regime cannot continue the Gaza war without Washington’s backing.
Netanyahu, Gantz and other Israeli officials are complicit in the atrocities that the regime has been committing against Palestinian people.
For now, replacing a criminal with another could be an available option for the White House.
But such replacements are like a band-aid solution that could not cover up the savage nature of Israel and the U.S. complicity in Israel’s atrocious crimes.
