TEHRAN PAPERS

Iran-Russia trade without currency transfer

March 2, 2024 - 22:37

TEHRAN - In a note, the Iran newspaper discussed a new season to increase Tehran-Moscow economic prosperity and wrote: Iran and Russia are pursuing barter trade.

In order to reduce the effects of the dollar on their economy, the two countries are supposed to carry out trade through the purchase and sale of industrial goods. The two countries of Iran and Russia have been subjected to the most severe sanctions in these years, so in order to reduce the negative effects of the sanctions and prevent the dominance of hostile countries, the economies of Iran and other sanctioned countries must distance themselves from the U.S. dollar. With the goal of de-dollarization that Iran, Russia, and other Eurasia member countries are pursuing, barter trade can be pursued more seriously because trading parties can exchange goods and services without the need to transfer currency. Iran's barter trade with other countries, especially Russia, can cover a part of Iran's foreign exchange and is very effective in diminishing the impact of U.S. sanctions because the possibility of identifying Iran's business partners will weaken and the country will no longer need dollar exchanges and related financial infrastructure.

Arman-e-Melli: Farewell to JCPOA forever?
Arman-e-Melli wrote about whether the nuclear agreement should be forgotten and said: According to the latest IAEA report, Iran has partially limited its growing nuclear activities and there are new signs of engagement. The agency's new report, which was prepared to be presented to the Council of Governors next week, spoke about the reduction of Iran's enriched uranium stock by 60% by diluting a part of it. It does not seem that the Board of Governors will have a resolution against Iran on its agenda next week. These days, the West has many troubles in Ukraine and the Middle East, and it probably will not want to create another acute problem for itself. In addition, Grossi's trip to Iran is also planned for next month. However, following Trump's withdrawal from the JCPOA and the impossibility of reaching an agreement with the Biden administration to revive the JCPOA, this agreement seems unattainable though it may still not be completely ruled out. Anyway, it is possible that if no agreement is reached to revive the JCPOA, Westerners will try to activate the trigger mechanism and return to the previous Security Council resolutions against Iran.

Shargh: Old and non-diplomatic sensitivities
In an interview with Najaf Mohammadi-Rad, a senior analyst in the international field, Shargh discussed the launch of the Iranian satellite "PARS 1" through a Russian launcher and wrote: Matthew Miller, the spokesman for the U.S. Department of State, indicated the launch of the Iranian satellite "PARS 1" through the Russian Soyuz launcher. He considered the deepening of the military partnership between Iran and Russia and said in an interventionist and non-diplomatic statement that if Iran goes further and sells ballistic missiles to Russia, I assure you the response of the international community will be swift and severe. Regardless of the influence of the conditions of the war in Ukraine as well as the unstable situation of the West in supporting Kiev with weapons, the nature of relations and cooperation between Iran and Russia is sensitive for the Westerners. Iran's military and defense relations with any country are within Tehran's political and diplomatic authority and independence, and no regional or extra-regional country has the right to comment and interfere in this type of Iran’s relations. But Tehran's actions, such as using the Russian Soyuz launcher to send an Iranian satellite, can provoke some sensitivities, and Iran should be a little smarter than before in its relations with Russia.

Siasat-e-Rooz: People finished work
Siasat-e-Rooz devoted its editorial to Iran's elections on Friday and said: As everyone has seen during the past months, a very heavy attack against Islamic Iran by the media affiliated with the enemies has formed to influence the election. Cities and towns across the country witnessed a large presence of people at the ballot boxes, where the battleground was between right and wrong, and this is enough to prove this claim that the enemies tried to reduce the participation rate to the lowest level so that they could, after this incident, implement their goals and plans. This large volume of enemy propaganda cannot be ignored because this large volume of negative propaganda tried to influence the public opinion of Iran and reduce the amount of participation. The anger that can be seen among the enemies now is the authority that has prevented the influence of the enemies from destroying Islamic Iran and has not allowed a united and unified Iran to be divided.
