Iran provides countries of region with transit access to open waters

TEHRAN – Iran’s Deputy Transport Minister Darioush Amani has said the Islamic Republic provides the countries of the region access to open waters via its transit routes, IRNA reported.

Amani made the remarks at the 86th session of the United Nations (UN)’s Inland Transport Committee (ITC) which took place in Geneva, from 20 to 23 February 2024.

The theme of the conference was: “Taking ambitious climate action – Moving towards decarbonized inland transport by 2050”.

Delivering a speech at the committee meeting, Amani emphasized the diplomacy of international transportation development and the readiness to provide maximum transit access of the countries of the region to the open waters in an interactive framework via all kinds of passageways through the territory of Iran.

Referring to the growth of road transport, which should lead to initiatives to reduce the negative effects of transportation on the environment, the official added: “Road transport services must maintain competitiveness for society with low-cost and quick-yielding solutions.”
