Iran vows to prosecute those who threaten national security
TEHRAN- Iran's Vice President for Legal Affairs Mohammad Dehghan has warned that anyone, regardless of nationality, who endangers the country's national security will face prosecution.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Dehghan emphasized that Iran maintains jurisdiction over its citizens even if they reside abroad, assuring that any individual, whether Iranian or non-Iranian, found to have acted against Iran's national security will be held accountable swiftly and effectively by the relevant authorities.
Addressing Iran's intervention in South Africa's complaint against the Zionist regime at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Dehghan explained that Iran had initially opted to refrain from filing a direct complaint due to concerns that doing so might inadvertently legitimize the Zionist regime as a state.
However, following South Africa's official submission, Iran has established a committee to prepare for its own intervention as a third party. Dehghan stated that Iran is poised to file its complaint against the Zionist regime at the ICJ in the near future.
Dehghan also elaborated on Iran's ongoing legal efforts against former U.S. President Donald Trump for his role in the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani. He revealed that two parallel legal paths are being pursued.
Firstly, Iran has filed an internal case within the country, and the judiciary is currently investigating and prosecuting those involved for their individual crimes. A verdict is expected soon.
Secondly, Iran has prepared a complaint against the U.S. government, and a formal warning has been issued to Washington. Dehghan announced that Iran will register its complaint against the U.S. government at the ICJ in late April 2024 and pursue the matter vigorously.
Dehghan's remarks underscore Iran's unwavering commitment to upholding its national security and pursuing justice for those who threaten its sovereignty. His statements send a clear message to both domestic and international actors that Iran will not tolerate any actions that undermine its national security.
