Belarus Regards Relations With Iran Among Priorities

MINSK Belarus regards its relations with Iran among priorities, said Belarussian Premier Vladimir Yermoshin on Tuesday. He conducted negotiations with an Iranian delegation in Minsk. The delegation led by Minister of Commerce Mohammad Shariatmadari takes part in the third meeting of the Mixed Belarussian-Iranian Commission for Economic Cooperation.
Yermoshin said the Belarussian-Iranian relations are based on a high level of political cooperation.
The premier expressed hope for the further development of political contacts. He said the visits of the Iranian foreign minister and president are awaited in Minsk.
Trade and economic relations between the two countries are stable, Yermoshin said.
The volume of trade between the two countries rose from 89,000 dollars in 1993 to 15.6 million dollars in 1999, TASS learnt from the Belarussian government on Tuesday. Belarussian-Iranian trade turnover made up nearly 8.8 million dollars in the first six months of 2000.
