Leader picks Gen. Safavi for membership in Strategic Council on Foreign Relations
TEHRAN - Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi has been appointed to the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations with the approval of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
He currently serves as a senior military advisor to the Leader of Islamic Revolution. Additionally, he has assumed the role of head of Defense and Security Commission within the council. Formerly occupied by Hossein Dehghan, this position was transitioned to Rahim Safavi following Dehghan’s appointment as the head of the Mostazafan Foundation.
Rahim Safavi began his military career as a commander in the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s. After holding multiple positions, he was chosen to serve as the Commander in Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) from 1997 till 2007.
