Parliament Speaker calls for measures to strengthen security after terrorist attack
TEHRAN – In response to the recent terrorist incident in Rask County, the Speaker of Iran's Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has called for an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Committee.
This initiative aims to identify and confront the perpetrators behind this unfortunate event. Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, Ghalibaf addressed the parliament on Tuesday, December 19, highlighting the critical need to equip border bases and implement preventive measures to avoid the recurrence of such crimes.
Expressing deep concern over the terrorist attack on the police headquarters in Rask, which resulted in the martyrdom and injury of dedicated employees, Ghalibaf extended heartfelt condolences to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Iran police commander-in-chief, the personnel who sacrificed their lives, the people of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, and the families of the esteemed martyrs.
The top Iranian parliamentarian underscored the immediate and serious need for security and police forces to identify and apprehend the elements responsible for this terrorist incident, emphasizing the importance of ensuring justice is served. Reiterating the need for equipping border bases and implementing preventive measures, Ghalibaf directed the National Security Committee to submit a comprehensive report addressing the required facilities and equipment to strengthen the defense capabilities of border police headquarters.
In response to Ghalibaf's call to action, a delegation from the Parliament’s National Security Committee has been dispatched to Sistan and Baluchestan Province. This delegation, comprising Ebrahim Azizi, Vice Chairman of the Committee, Seyyed Ali Aghazadeh Dafsari, Chairman of Parliament’s Defense Committee, and Fadahossein Maleki, Representative of the People of Zahedan in Sistan and Baluchestan Province and a committee member, is set to conduct on-site investigations. The agenda includes site visits and meetings with local and security authorities of the province to gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation.
Official reports indicate that at least 11 Iranian police officers lost their lives in a terrorist-affiliated assault that occurred overnight on Friday, December 15, at a police station in Rask County, located in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan. Additionally, eight police forces have been reported injured.
The so-called Jaish-ul-Adl terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Iranian government remains committed to addressing the aftermath of this tragic incident comprehensively and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
