TCCIMA criticizes limitations imposed on imports made by private sector

TEHRAN - During the fifth meeting of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (TCCIMA)’s Trade Development and Facilitation Committee the members criticized some of the regulations and limitations imposed by the government on the imports conducted by the private sector.

As the TCCIMA portal reported, private importers are limited as the government has set a ceiling and a quota for each importer based on the company’s experience assessment.

Speaking in the meeting, Kaveh Zargaran, the head of the committee, pointed out that the regulations regarding the ceiling and experience assessment were introduced by the previous government when subsidized foreign currency was being allocated to private sector importers, however, now that the subsidized foreign currency is no longer allocated, there is no logic to limit private companies by such criteria.
