U.S. uses political maneuvering to accomplish unmet objectives in Gaza War: Iran

November 27, 2023 - 22:41

TEHRAN- The spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry has said that the U.S. is turning to politics to make up for its mistakes and losses after failing to accomplish its stated goals during the extensive Israeli war against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Addressing reporters at a press briefing on Monday, Nasser Kanaani said that “based on our monitoring of the situation on the ground and contacts with the parties involved, the U.S. seeks to achieve what it has not gained through political means.”

“In other words, the U.S. seeks to realize the unfulfilled goals in Israel’s cruel war through political approaches,” he added.

He declared that all available data indicated the Israeli regime’s desire to keep up its adventurism in the region.

In response to a question concerning Gaza’s future and U.S. interventionist actions, Kanaani stated that the U.S. has contributed to the Palestinian crisis over the last few decades, including the most recent war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza.

According to the Iranian official, the U.S. blocked attempts to halt the assault on the Strip during the Gaza War and gave the Israeli regime complete assistance in all areas.

He said, “The U.S. is not expected to be part of the solution, but it can help solve the issue if it stops supporting the Tel Aviv regime.”

Kanaani highlighted that the U.S.’s failure to find a viable solution to the Palestinian issue has always resulted from its disregard for the reality on the ground.

“The U.S. and the Zionist regime failed to achieve what they had planned during the recent war and aggression against Gaza,” he pointed out.

However, the Iranian diplomat once again reiterated that the Palestinian people would never allow any party to achieve its “illegitimate interests.”

“Palestine’s fate will be determined by its own people... The U.S. unjust actions will not help solve the crisis without weighing up the realities,” Kanaani continued.

When asked about the U.S. decision to deploy its warships to the West Asian region, he said that Washington has always been a disruptive force and has never taken any action to improve regional security.

Iran’s influence on the Palestinian resistance groups was refuted by the spokesman, who maintained that the groups are only expressing a “natural reaction to the U.S. unconstructive role in support for the Zionist regime’s crimes and the U.S. illegal presence in the region.”

Additionally, he said that “Tehran always remains committed to security and stability in the region.”

After the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, carried out the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying regime in reaction to the Israeli regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians, Israel declared war on Gaza on October 7.

Additionally, Tel Aviv has cut off Gaza’s access to food, water, and power, resulting in a humanitarian crisis throughout the coastal strip.

Due to Israeli attacks, around 15,000 Palestinians—mostly women and children—have lost their lives.

“Yemen seizure of Israeli ships has nothing to do with Iran”

Kanaani ruled out any relation between Iran and the recent capture of Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea by Yemen’s Ansarullah group.

The Ansarullah leaders made it apparent that they are not constrained in their options when it comes to opposing the atrocities of the Zionist regime, and the Yemeni forces have declared that their actions have nothing to do with Iran, the spokesperson continued.

“Ansarullah had announced that it would take action against targets linked with the Zionist regime in order to support the Palestinian nation. The support for Palestine is not confined to Yemen as the other nations in the region and the world have also taken action,” Kanaani said.

“What Yemen did is similar to what other nations have done in support of Palestine,” he stated.

The spokesperson stated that large marches throughout the world demonstrate rising worldwide solidarity for Palestine and that world nations can no longer tolerate the Israeli regime’s abuses.

Iran replies to European countries’ claims

Kanaani stated that the Office of the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations in Vienna published a statement detailing Iran’s position in response to recent allegations brought against Iran by three European governments.

He also emphasized that keeping commitments is a fundamental principle in international agreements, and that Iran’s nuclear activities, including its uranium enrichment program, are carried out solely for peaceful purposes and in accordance with the rights granted to Iran under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Kanaani chastised certain governments for acting as if Iran was the party who violated UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), adding that those making such claims are clearly driven by political motives.

The spokesperson also touched on the matter of certain groups hiding key facts and numbers in an effort to condemn Iran by confusing voluntary commitments with legal requirements.

He emphasized that all parties need to follow the JCPOA’s appendices.

Kanaani promised that the Islamic Republic’s collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will not be impacted in spite of such accusations.

Method for resolving disputes

Expanding on rumors that the West was threatening to use the JCPOA Dispute Resolution Mechanism against the Islamic Republic, Kanaani stated that Iran is not under threat because the nation has demonstrated that it will never accept threats of any kind and because Iranians are strong militarily, politically, and logically.

On Afghanistan

Concerning the developments in Afghanistan, the spokesman stated that, aside from the meetings and the level of Iran’s contribution, Tehran pursues principled diplomacy, emphasizing its commitment to promote stability and security in Afghanistan in order to provide a peaceful living for the Afghan people.

When Iranian officials hold talks with the Taliban and express their views, their diplomatic efforts are consistent with the mentioned principle, according to Kanaani, who added that the Islamic Republic is committed to the rights of the Afghan people and believes that all parties should contribute to the formation of an all-inclusive government in Afghanistan.
