TEHRAN- Iran's ambassador to Tajikistan, Alireza Haghighian, has highlighted the significant growth in Tehran-Dushanbe ties under the Raisi administration, resulting in concrete outcomes across all fields, particularly trade and economy.

Led by President Ebrahim Raisi, an Iranian delegation met with their Tajik counterparts on Wednesday (November 8) at the Tajikistan Palace of Nation. During the meeting, 18 documents were signed, marking a significant step forward in Tehran-Dushanbe relations.

The visit was called a “turning point” in Iran-Tajikistan relations by Ambassador Haghighian. 

The Islamic Republic of Iran was the first country to recognize the independence of Tajikistan.

Tajikistan is a Central Asian country with a population of 10 million and a republic form of government. Its capital, Dushanbe, is located in the south and borders China in the east.

Since the establishment of political relations between Tajikistan and Iran, the presidents of Iran have visited Tajikistan 14 times, and the president of Tajikistan has visited the Islamic Republic 18 times.

Upon the official invitation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi made his first official visit to Tajikistan in 2021. Eight documents were signed during that meeting.

The Tajik president, upon the official invitation of Raisi, also made a reciprocal visit to Iran. During his stay in Iran, 17 cooperation documents were signed.

Business volume increased by $150 million in the first six months. 

"President Raisi's administration aims to strengthen ties with neighboring and allied countries, as evidenced by Raisi's recent visit to Tajikistan," Haghighian told to Mehr news agency.

As part of the Raisi administration's strategy, the commercial relations between the two countries have significantly improved. In 2021, the volume of trade was 120 million dollars, which increased to 270 million dollars in 2022. In the first six months of this year, the volume of business relations has reached 150 million dollars.
