Transport Ministry begins drafting comprehensive development plan
TEHRAN – Iran’s Transport and Urban Development Ministry has started drafting a comprehensive plan for the development of the country’s transportation industry, Deputy Transport Minister Shahriyar Afandizadeh announced on Saturday.
“The country's comprehensive transportation plan is a document based on which all of the country's short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans for the development of transportation infrastructure in all sub-sectors should be organized,” Afandizadeh explained.
This plan, as the most important upstream document for the development of the country's transportation infrastructure, came under the spotlight in the 80s but hasn’t been realized so far due to various reasons.
“Over the past few years, the plan has been specifically put on the agenda of the Transport Ministry and will be finalized soon,” he said.
According to the official, to compile the mentioned plan, the country’s top scientific and academic centers and consulting engineers with the highest ranks in the field of road and transportation have cooperated with the Transport Ministry.
This plan is being prepared in three main sections, the first of which, focused on forecasting demand for the horizon of the Iranian calendar year 1414 (2035-2036), has been completed; this section will be used as an input to compile the second and third sections, in order to determine the optimal transportation network based on environmental and economic indicators and criteria.
