TEHRAN-The Cinematheque of the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) in Tehran will screen “The Missing Picture,” a 2013 Cambodian-French documentary film directed by Rithy Panh on Sunday.

Being the 34th film shown in the documentary program of the cinematheque, the movie will be shown at 5 p.m. at Nasseri Hall and will be followed with a review session chaired by filmmaker Omid Abdollahi, ILNA reported on Saturday.

“The Missing Picture” is a recreation of the atrocities that existed during the ruling period of Khmer Rouge, the name that was popularly given to members of the Communist Party of Kampuchea (CPK) and by extension to the regime through which the CPK ruled Cambodia between 1974 and 1979.

A communist political group, the Khmer Rouge had taken power in the country following the Cambodian Civil War. Lasting for four years, the Cambodian Genocide was an explosion of mass violence that saw between 1.5 and 3 million people killed at the hands of the Khmer Rouge.

Panh’s film portrays his memories of living in a Khmer Rouge labor camp. Realizing he didn’t have any photographs that might help to paint a picture of the horrors of genocide, he used ceramic figures to depict his lost childhood while providing eloquent testimony to his family’s tragedy.

The 95-minute documentary was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival where it won the top prize. It was also screened in the World Cinema section at the 2013 Cinemanila International Film Festival where it won the Grand Jury Prize.

Furthermore, it won the Lumières Award for Best Documentary at the 21st Lumières Awards and was nominated for the César Award for Best Documentary Film at the 41st César Awards as well as for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards.

The Iranian Artists Forum is situated at Artists Park on North Mousavi Street, Taleqani Street.
