TEHRAN - Arian Salimi took a silver medal in taekwondo in the 2022 Asian Games on Thursday.

Salimi defeated Samuel Thomas Morrison of the Philippines 2-0 in the men’s 80kg in Round of 16.

The Iranian taekwondo athlete beat Jordan’s Anas Sadek 2-0 and Meng En Lee of Chinese Taipei 2-0 in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.

Salimi lost to Zhaoxiang Song of China 2-1 in the final.

With more than 12,000 competitors from 45 nations and territories, the 2022 Asian Games has more participants than the Olympics.

Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.
