IRGC chief likens media war against Iran to Hiroshima, Nagasaki bombings
TEHRAN – During a speech on Tuesday, the chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) addressed the foreign media campaigns against Iran while drawing parallels with the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
“The enemies’ endeavors in the virtual space and their social media campaigns aimed at harming Iran are similar to what happened to Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II,” Hossein Salami remarked.
During a gathering at the University of Tehran, the major general stressed that education centers like universities have always been a symbol of freedom, liberty, and the fight against oppression, colonization, and despotism. That’s why the enemy has been trying to infiltrate Iranian universities and change the course of thought among Iranian students.
“Universities have sometimes acted as battlefields against the enemies of independence, freedom, and the authentic identity of our nation; for this reason, today enemies have set their eyes on our universities and have been trying to dominate the hearts and minds of the Iranian youth”.
He added that the people of Iran have been the target of crippling economic sanctions, full-waged cultural invasions, and psychological warfare. Salami warned that Iranians must stay alert and do not wobble, as a moment of negligence can give terrorists and certain world leaders the chance to harm Iran.
The IRGC chief also touched on enemies’ reactions towards last year’s riots in Iran, calling their response hasty and miscalculated. “The enemies were excited last year; false assumptions, miscalculations, and deviations in their estimates were the main factors in their defeat.”
He highlighted that the high awareness and fierce resistance of the people of Iran as well as the Leader of the Islamic Revolution helped the country keep itself intact.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the top commander said, “Our enemies concede their power is declining. We can see the enemy up close; they have nothing to say and are moving towards a political ICU”.
Salami also commented on Iran’s impressive progress throughout the years, mentioning how a country that was incapable of manufacturing guns has now developed a powerful domestic military system. “The enemies are powerless in domestic and international affairs, while the Islamic Republic of Iran is progressing,” he added.
