Iran has identified 200 tangible and intangible properties worth UNESCO label
TEHRAN—Some 200 tangible and intangible properties have been recognized across Iran that are worth UNESCO label, said Ali Darabi, the deputy for cultural heritage at Iran’s tourism ministry.
200 priorities of tangible, natural and intangible heritage in the country have been identified for [possible] UNESCO registration in Iran, CHTN quoted Darabi as saying on Tuesday.
That priority list of properties, however, will be hammered more in consultation with cultural heritage experts, the official said.
Darabi made the remarks in a Tehran conference to commemorate the recent UNESCO resignation of 54 Iranian caravanserais under the name: The Persian Caravanserai.
So far, a variety of Iranian elements, from traditional skills in building and sailing Iranian Lenj boats in the Persian Gulf to Radif Iranian music and from pilgrimages to St. Thaddeus Monastery to the art of the miniature, have a place in UNESCO World Heritage Sites Found List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity to protect the nation's cultural achievements.
The Islamic Republic expects to reap a bonanza from its numerous tourist spots such as bazaars, museums, mosques, bridges, bathhouses, madrasas, mausoleums, churches, towers, and mansions, of which 27 are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Under the 2025 Tourism Vision Plan, Iran aims to increase the number of tourist arrivals from 4.8 million in 2014 to 20 million in 2025.
