Iran U16 basketball team clinch best final standing since 2013

TEHRAN - Iran put themselves in a position for their best final standing in the FIBA U16 Asian Championship since 2009 after beating Qatar in Classification games.

In their second game against each other in the FIBA U16 Asian Championship 2023, Iran defeat Qatar with a score of 83-56. Earlier in the Group Phase, Iran had already beaten Qatar 86-65.

Coach Mohammad Reza Eslami saw his side lead by as much as 31 points and never trailed throughout the entire game. Majid Alaei Khosroshahi led Iran with 25 points while Iman Valizadeh added 22 points.

Mohamed Ndao shined for Qatar once again with 23 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists, and 6 blocks for an EFF of 30.

Iran are now guaranteed to finish at least 6th place in the competition, which will be their best since 2013 when they also finished 6th. However, they can still finish at 5th with a win in their final game.
