Short drama “Katvoman” wins award at Bolivian festival
TEHRAN- The short drama “Katvoman” written and directed by Hadi Sheibani, has won an award at the 19th Festival Internacional de Cine de los Derechos Humanos in Bolivia.
The short film won the International Eye Award in the short film category of the festival that was held August 28 to September 3 in the city of Sucre as the main venue, Honaronline reported on Monday.
An Iranian-Indian joint film, it shows a mom and son playing dressed up as Batman and Catwoman before dad returns for dinner. Through the play, the child discovers a difficult truth about his parents.
The cast includes Sepideh Mozaheb, Esmaeil Ghasemi, and Amir Ahmad Sadeghzadeh as well as Mohammad Tahan and Somaye Saeidi as voice artists.
The first short film of Sheibani, “Katvoman” had its world premiere at the 20th Molise Cinema Film Festival last August. Since then, it has been screened at numerous international events and has won several awards, including the award for best fiction at the Festival International du Film Amateur de Kelibia – FIFAK in Tunisia, the audience award for best short fiction at the 10th Amnesty International France’s Cinema for Human Rights Festival.
Inspired by Catwoman character, the short film is concerned with women’s rights, domestic violence, and the MeToo movement.
A graduate of Asian Film Academy and Iranian Youth Cinema Society, Sheibani was awarded the AFA scholarship as the only Iranian Fellow at Asian Film Academy 2019. He had served as the editor of 15 film projects before making his own first short film.
