September 18, 2023 - 17:15

TEHRAN –The poetry and music event of Iran Sara will open tonight at the Soureh Hall of Tehran’s Art Bureau.

The two-day event marks the celebration of the National Day of Persian Poetry and Literature and seeks to promote the beauty and significance of Persian poetry, Milad Erfanpur, the director of the Music Center of the Art Bureau said in a press conference on Monday.

The national event also intends to create a platform for poets to make a social impact, he added.

The social and educational impact of poetry on all members of the cultural and artistic community is clear and evident, he said.

He also emphasized that poetry has been affected by the surge of new media and urged the importance of focusing on preserving this artistic and literary treasure to avoid overlooking its importance.

“We must put forth our best efforts to ensure that this form of art, which blends words with Iranian Islamic culture, can flourish more exponentially than ever before. Furthermore, we should strive to provide poets with more opportunities to make a significant impact within our country.”

The event has extended invitations to some 20 renowned poets hailing from Tehran and other Iranian provinces to present their latest works.

Yusef-Ali Mirshakak, Farid Tahmasebi, Saeid Biabanaki, Mohammadreza Torki, Mahmoud Ekrami, Nasser Feiz, Mehdi Jahandar, Leila Kordbacheh, Hosna Mohammadzadeh and Nafiseh Sadat Mousavi are included amongst the distinguished poets.

Along with the poets, vocalists such as Hossein Haqiqi, Amir Haqiqat, Gholamreza Sanatgar, and Amir Hossein Samiei are also scheduled to perform at the event. In addition, Afghan singer and poet, Aref Jafari, will also be making an appearance.

Holding an exhibition of selected works of poetry and music with special discounts for product purchases is one of the other programs being carried out in this national event.

National Day of Persian Poetry and Literature is observed every year on the death anniversary of the most prominent figure of contemporary Persian poetry Mohammad-Hossein Behjat Tabrizi – Shahriar.

As the most prominent figure of contemporary Persian literature, Shahriar was mainly influenced by the poetry of Hafez, a Persian poet writing in the 14th century.

Shahriar, who also composed works in Azerbaijani, published his first book of poems in 1929 with prefaces by Persian literature scholars Mohammad-Taqi Bahar, Saeid Nafisi and Pejman Bakhtiari.

“Heidar Babaya Salam” is Shahriar’s most famous Azerbaijani poetry collection, which highlights his birthplace, the village of Heidar Baba.
