Saudi king, crown prince receive letters from Iranian president

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman received two letters from Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi covering bilateral relations, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

The letters were received by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Walid bin Abdul-Karim Al-Khuraiji during his reception of the Iranian Ambassador to the kingdom, Alireza Enayati.
Issues of common interests and relations between the two countries were discussed during the meeting, SPA reported.

Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Iran arrived in Tehran, and his counterpart landed in Riyadh, cementing ties between the two countries after a seven-year rupture in relations.

Saudi Arabia recognizes the "importance of strengthening ties, increasing engagement... and taking the (relationship) to broader horizons," Ambassador Abdullah Alanazi said upon his arrival in Tehran to take up his duties, the Saudi foreign ministry said in a statement on that day.

Alanazi was Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Oman and Enyati was Iran's ambassador to Kuwait.

Saudi Arabia's embassy in Tehran resumed operations last month. In June, Iran marked the reopening of its embassy in Riyadh with a flag-raising ceremony.

Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to resume diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies following a China-brokered deal in March. Prior to that, Iran and Saudi Arabia held five rounds of talks in Baghdad.

Last month, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian called for unity and dialogue during his first visit to Saudi Arabia since the rapprochement was announced, saying bilateral ties were "progressing in the right direction," AFP reported.

While visiting the kingdom, Amir Abdollahian held talk with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud and Crown Prince bin Salman.
