236 Development Projects to Be Inaugurated in East Azarbaijan

TABRIZ, East Azarbaijan Province Some 236 development projects, at a total cost of Rls.140 billion, are to be inaugurated in this northwestern province during Government Week (August 23-29).
Yahya Mohammadzadeh, governor general of the province, told reporters that the projects are mostly to be implemented in deprived areas of the province.
"The projects will help eradicate poverty and provide social justice to the region," he added.
More than 1,120 development projects are to become operational throughout the province by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2001), he said.
The construction of a number of dams in different parts of the province, the provision of drinking water to certain provincial cities, the construction of a copper-producing factory in Ahar, the Mianeh-Tabriz railway and the Zanjan-Tabriz Highway are among major development projects to be carried out in the province, Mohammadzadeh said.
Over Rls.260 billion has been allocated for the province's development and industrial projects this year, he concluded.
