TEHRAN – Iranian police authorities announced on Sunday that they had arrested four leaders involved in inciting unrest in downtown Tehran.

The intelligence organization of the Iranian police said the arrested leaders played a key role in calling for rioting at Enghelab Square at the heart of the capital Tehran.

The arrests were made in continuation of measures by Iranian security forces to counter those who were involved in leading unrest that erupted in the wake of the death of Mahsa Amini in September.

The Kerman provincial branch of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) also announced in a statement late on Sunday that it dismantled an “organized network dubbed Zagros” in Kerman which was directed by UK-based counterrevolutionary elements planning to overthrow the Islamic Republic.

The statement said that seven key individuals of the Zagros group were arrested by the IRGC. They were involved in field and media activities aimed at inciting unrest.

Some of the arrested hold dual citizenship and were trying to flee the country but were arrested before doing so, the statement said.
