JCPOA snapback mechanism not to fulfill America’s purpose
The state-run Iran newspaper reported on the reasons why the West has not activated the snapback mechanism against the Islamic Republic.
Regarding the increasing power of Iran, Americans have no choice but to negotiate and accept legitimate demands of Tehran, especially in the matter of nuclear advances, the publication said.
The newspaper referred to the failure of the U.S. maximum pressure policies against Iran and wrote that severe sanctions on Iranian officials, domestic and foreign companies that cooperate with Iran, expulsion of the Islamic Republic from the UN Commission on Status of Women and accusing Tehran of human rights violations and supporting the riots have not produced results for them.
Although the West does not need the votes of the permanent members of the Security Council to activate the trigger mechanism, it needs convincing all members. However, countries such as China and Russia have repeatedly asked Washington to show flexibility and help resolve the issue by declaring that the current situation is the result of America’s bad faith and unilateralist approaches.
“Sanctions and resolutions against Iran are not considered a new and important event, and cannot help American and European countries to get closer to their anti-Iran goals,” the newspaper concluded.
Etemad: Reform, a national desire
‘Reform; a national desire’ was the main headline of the Etemad newspaper in which social critic Bijan Abdol Karimi insists on the need for a national dialogue between the protesters and the government.
“We need figures to be familiar with the logic of both the new generations and the government to convey the both sides’ demands and ideas via mediation,” Abdol Karimi suggested.
“Using violence does not always mean power, but sometimes it is interpreted as a weakness. Confrontation with people is the most expensive, costly and ineffective tool in face of social and political demands,” he commented.
Criticizing limitations on media, he also emphasized that any media that tries to reflect the voices of the people faces pressure. He suggested that media should be open to the views of the people and reflect the public opinion.
However, the Kayhan publication argued that the Iranians’ voice is countering terrorism and rioters, emphasizing that a political front has tried to portray a certain anti-government group as the Iranian nation.
The newspaper called it a trickery by the enemies that accuse the government of not listening to the voices of these very small percentage of the people.
Sharq: Reality or politicians’ claims
The pro-reform Shar publication, in a note, slammed the President’s recent economic remarks and considered them as dampening hopes for future reforms or changes.
The basic problem facing the national economy is precisely due to these heterogeneities and a wrong implementation of solutions. For at least two decades, economic activists, experts and business owners have emphasized the principle of freedom and competition and the views of the private sector as the engine of economic progress and development, which have so far been neglected, the author analyzed.
Governments in today’s world cannot claim success and victory without having a clear idea and the will and planning necessary to realize that idea, which should not be anything other than providing the welfare, development and freedom of the people, the columnist proposed.
Arman-e Melli: Tehran, Riyadh relation: so far, so close!
Talks with Saudi Arabia will continue on its previous path and we are ready to open the embassies of the two countries and return bilateral relations to a normal state whenever the Saudi side is ready, Arman-e Melli quoted Iranian Foreign Minister as saying.
The newspaper pointed to the previous steps of the two countries to revive their relations which were not implemented. It also took a glimpse at China’s joint statement with Saudi that once again postponed reestablishing Tehran-Riyadh relations.
In conclusion, it wrote that “with the visit of a delegation from the IAEA to Tehran and new position of some Western officials, it can be realized that the Westerners are struggling to restart the negotiations with Tehran after unrest has calmed down. From this point of view, Saudi Arabia, which is waiting to see what will happen to Iran’s relations with the West, does not mind renewing diplomatic ties with Tehran before or during a possible return of the West and Iran to the JCPOA.”
Ham Mihan: You could not, either!
Ham Mihan also interviewed former central bank governor Abdol Naser Hemmati to address the economic and political issues.
Addressing the sitting government, Hemmati said, “You promised the people that Iran’s currency will be the strongest currency in the region after the euro and the dollar. You said that inflation will reduce to a single digit percent. You said that you will stop borrowing from the central bank, but you also could not, either.”
Criticizing the government’s inability to fulfill its promises and prevent the rapid rise in prices, the former banker said the main cause of foreign currency rise is the sanctions and the continuous budget deficit. “There are two reasons for the devaluation of countries’ currencies, when the foreign exchange income decreases and inflation increases. If the sanctions remain unsolved, it will end up borrowing from the central bank,” he warned.
“If you really think that the previous governments have ruined the situation and you cannot fix it, give up and resign. Let new elections be held with the participation of the majority of the people,” he further recommended.
