Iran FM arrives in Sarajevo
TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian arrived Tuesday in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, after concluding a visit to Serbia.
Upon his arrival, Amir Abdollahian met with his Bosnian counterpart, Bisera Turkovic, who had invited the Iranian foreign minister to pay a visit to Sarajevo.
Amir Abdollahian held two rounds of meeting with Turkovic. After that, the two foreign ministers paid homage to the tomb of Alija Izetbegovic, the former president of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Earlier, the Iranian foreign minister held extensive meetings with Serbian officials in Belgrade.
In Belgrade, Amir Abdollahian met with Serbian Foreign Minister Serbian counterpart Ivica Dacic, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, President Aleksandar Vucic, Parliament Speaker Vladimir Orlic, and Serbia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Jelena Tanaskovic.
In his meeting with the Serbian president, Amir Abdollahian renewed an invitation by the Iranian president to Vucic to visit Iran. The Iranian foreign minister also reaffirmed Iran’s support for the territorial integrity of Serbia.
Amir Abdollahian gave a report to the Serbian president about his talks with the prime minister and foreign minister of Serbia, stressing the necessity of boosting cooperation between Tehran and Belgrade in different spheres given the longevity of their relations.
The top Iranian diplomat also stressed the need to use creative mechanisms to enhance economic cooperation and increase the volume of trade between the two nations.
The Serbian president for his part gave his greetings to the Iranian president and said Serbia believes that Iran is an important regional country.
He added, “We think of expansion of ties with Iran as significant and underline the need to strengthen our cooperation in proportion to the possibilities of the two countries.”
In their meeting, the two foreign ministers discussed matters concerning bilateral relations, regional developments and important international issues, according to the Iranian foreign ministry.
The Iranian foreign minister described ties between Tehran and Belgrade as excellent and said there are no limitations to expanding cooperation and bilateral relations in various fields. Amir Abdollahian expressed hope that Iran and Serbia take longer strides toward continuing expansion of ties under their comprehensive plan for joint cooperation.
The foreign minister then pointed to the volume of trade between Iran and Serbia, noting that the capacity to promote commercial cooperation is way higher than what it is now. Amir Abdollahian stressed the need to make more efforts by Tehran and Belgrade to use the possibilities of their ties in this sphere.
