Iranian poet Yadollah Maftun Amini dies at 96
TEHRAN – Iranian poet Yadollah Maftun Amini died of a heart attack on Thursday. He was 96.
Born in 1926 in Shahindej, West Azarbaijan province, Amini moved to Tehran to complete his education after finishing high school in Tabriz. He studied at Tehran University’s Faculty of Law.
Beginning with classical Persian Poetry, he gradually progressed to non-rhythmic and modern Persian Poetry in the 1980s.
In addition to Persian poetry, he also wrote Azeri poetry, his mother tongue. Ashiqli Karvan was his first collection of Azeri poetry.
He was a contemporary of poets such as Shahriar, Rahi Moayyeri, and Fereydoun Moshiri.
His most prominent poem was “Lake” which he wrote in 1952.
Among his credits are “Pomegranate Garden”, “Hidden Season”, “A Vineyard of Chance”, “The Light of the Day”, “Evening in the Garden of the Observatory”, “Night 1002”, “Whale or Wave”, “Festival of Words and Feelings and Moods”, and “Gold/Grey/Barrage”.
