Iran crowned champions of 2022 World Sitting Volleyball
TEHRAN – Iran’s men’s team clinched the title of the 2022 World Sitting Volleyball Championships by swiping past Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-0 (26-24, 32-30, 25-12) in the final match Friday night.
The competition was held Bosnia and Herzegovina's capital Sarajevo from Nov. 4 to 11.
This is Iran's record eighth world title.
“Iranian men’s sitting volleyball have always been a powerful team. What we are looking for amongst all the achievements that we have is to sustain those achievements by winning more world titles and Paralympic medals,” Iran’s Morteza Mehrzad told worldparavolley.org.
Brazil earned the men's bronze medal, beating Egypt 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24.
In the women's final, Brazil claimed their maiden world title with a hard-fought win over fellow first-time finalists Canada.
Brazil came back from the brink to win 25-23, 18-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-6.
The U.S. won the bronze medal, sweeping past Slovenia 25-8, 25-14, 25-10.
Iran’s women’s team also finished in ninth place.
Both new world champions also qualify for the Paris 2024 Paralympics as a result of their victories.
