Tehran, Bishkek ready to boost customs co-op

TEHRAN – Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Alireza Moghadasi and Kyrgyzstan’s Ambassador to Tehran Turdakun Sydykov stressed enhancing customs cooperation between the two countries in a meeting in Tehran on Thursday, IRIB reported.

Speaking in this meeting, Moghadasi mentioned the membership of Iran and Kyrgyzstan in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), saying that the trade between the two countries is expected to increase using the capacities of membership in these regional unions.

He also pointed to the memorandums of understanding (MOUs) signed between the two countries in recent years and said that the two countries signed MOUs in the fields of customs cooperation, transit of goods, fighting against smuggling, customs frauds, and mutual administrative cooperation.

The complete implementation of these MOUs will help the growth of trade between the two countries, he added.

Moghadasi underlined the importance of customs cooperation between the two countries for increasing the volume of commercial exchanges and said: “The implementation of the electronic TIR, the expansion of educational cooperation regarding customs issues, providing the necessary ground for the signing of new memorandums of understanding, and the exchange of customs information between the two countries will play a significant role in the development trade facilitation between Iran and Kyrgyzstan.”

According to the official, the customs of the two countries are expected to put the above-mentioned items on the agenda.

He further mentioned the successful implementation of a green customs corridor with Russian customs and proposed the implementation of a similar mechanism with Kyrgyzstan, which was welcomed.

Sydykov, for his part, expressed his country’s readiness for the expansion of customs cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Welcoming Moghadasi’s proposals, he said: the proposals for expanding and increasing the volume of trade exchanges will be presented to the customs and related departments so that the necessary solutions are followed up and carried out.
