Iranian woman weightlifter Hosseini makes history

TEHEAN – Iranian woman weightlifter Elham Hosseini made history in the 2022 Asian Weightlifting Championships on Friday.

She collected a gold in the snatch by lifting 102kg in the women’s 81kg and also seized a gold in the clean and jerk with 125kg. Hosseini won Iran’s first gold in the history of women’s category by lifting 227kg in total.

Japanese Motoka Nakajima seized the silver by lifting 100kg in the snatch, 123kg in the clean and jerk and 223kg in total.
Aisha Omarova of Kazakhstan won the bronze medal with 93kg in the snatch, 124kg in the clean and jerk and 217kg in total.

Masoud Chatraei claimed a bronze medal in the men’s 89kg weight class on Thursday.

He seized the bronze medal with a total of 358kg. He lifted 162kg in the snatch and 196kg in clean and jerk.

The 2022 Asian Weightlifting Championships are being held in Manama, Bahrain from Oct. 6 to 16.

It is the 50th men's and 31st women's championship.
