Home appliance exports stand at $175m in 5 months
TEHRAN- As announced by the secretary-general of Iran’s Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), the country’s home appliance exports stood at $175 million during the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-August 22).
In explaining the main causes and factors for the realization of production growth in industrial activities, especially in the home appliances sector, Abbas Hashemi said that attention to exports and markets in the region and neighbors is one of the positive approaches of the government and the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade.
According to the ministry’s data, the manufacturing of home appliances in Iran rose 7.56 percent during the previous Iranian calendar year 1400 (ended on March 20) from the preceding year.
As reported, over 6,273,600 sets of large home appliances, including TV sets, refrigerators and freezers, washing machines, and air coolers were manufactured in 1400, while the figure was 5,832,400 in 1399.
Among the mentioned products, just air cooler experienced a production drop, and production of the other items increased.
Over the past few years, the Iranian government has been following a new strategy for supporting domestic production to neutralize the impacts of the U.S. sanctions while reducing the reliance of the economy on oil revenues.
The home appliances sector has been one of the pioneers in this regard and like many other areas, the production of home appliances has witnessed a significant rise in the past four years.
In mid-July, the head of the Association of Home Appliance Parts Manufacturers said that the Iranian manufacturers are currently producing 95 percent of the components and parts used in the home appliance industry.
“We are 95 percent self-sufficient in the production of home appliance parts, and only in some electronic parts and refrigerator compressors we are still dependence on foreign suppliers,” Morsal Sediq told IRIB.
According to Sediq, there are currently more than 2,000 home appliance component manufacturing units active in the country, which, in addition to meeting the needs of domestic manufacturers, export to other countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Egypt, Tunisia, and Syria.
