TEHRAN – Production of crude steel in Iran rose 9.9 percent in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-August 22), as compared to the same period of time in the past year, according to the data released by Industry, Mining and Trade Ministry.

The ministry’s data put the country’s five-month crude steel production at 11.9 million tons.

Also, the latest report released by the World Steel Association (WSA) shows that Iran’s crude steel output has increased 64.7 percent in August 2022 from August 2021.

Based on the WSA data, Iran produced about 2.1 tons of crude steel in the mentioned month.

The Islamic Republic produced 19.5 million tons of steel in the first eight months of 2022 to register a 7.8 percent growth compared to the same period in the previous year.

Iran has maintained its place as the world’s 10th biggest steel producer during January-August 2022, according to the World Steel Association.

The Iranian Steel industry has been constantly developing over the past years against all the pressures and obstacles created by outside forces like the U.S. sanctions and the coronavirus outbreak that has severely affected the performance of the world’s top producers.

The country is expected to climb to seventh place among the world’s top steel producers by the Iranian calendar year 1404 (March 2025).
