“23 Individuals” tops at Qoqnus Screen Awards
TEHRAN – “23 Individuals” by Mehdi Jafari, an epic movie about 23 young Iranian volunteers who were captives during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, was crowned best film at the 8th edition of the Qoqnus Screen Awards on Friday.
Organized by the Art Bureau of the Islamic Ideology Dissemination Organization, the Qoqnus Screen Awards honors revolutionary films and cineastes.
Despite their standard procedure for honoring cineastes in various categories, the organizers decided to present only four awards this year.
The awards ceremony was organized at Tehran’s Sarcheshmeh Cultural Complex where “Blood Trap” by Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian, a sequel to his 2017 acclaimed movie “Midday Event”, was picked as second best film.
Mahdavian was also selected as the Revolutionary Cinema Figure of the Year.
Film critic and scholar Majid Shah-Hosseini was also honored for his lifetime achievements.
