Lifesaving World C’ships: Iran’s Ghasemi wins silver at beach sprint

TEHRAN – Reza Ghasemi from Iran claimed a silver medal at the the 2018 Lifesaving World Championships underway in South Australian shores.

At the beach sprint (90m course), Ghasemi finished in second place behind an athlete from the Netherlands.

The bronze medal went to an Egyptian swimmer.

The event has brought more than 6000 participants from 44 countries from Nov. 16 to Dec. 2 at Glenelg Beach and the world-class South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide.  

Lifesaving sport was primarily intended to encourage lifesavers to develop, maintain and improve the essential physical and mental skills needed to save lives in the aquatic environment. Lifesaving competitions consist of a variety of competitions to further develop and demonstrate lifesaving skills, fitness and motivation.
