Over 5,600 artisans engaged in handicrafts in Arak

TEHRAN – A total of 5,633 artists and artisans are currently working in 70 fields of handicrafts in Arak, the capital of Iran’s Markazi province, CHTN reported.

Females constitute 3,384 of the figure, said Qasem Kazemi, the provincial tourism chief.

Earlier this year, Masoumeh Ebtekar, the vice president for women’s and family affairs, announced some 75 percent of Iranian handicrafts are produced by females.

Dozens of Iranian handicrafts have gained the UNESCO Seal of Excellence during the past couple of years.
