Japan’s Trade Minister Hiroshige Seko says his country will continue to negotiate with the U.S. for an exemption to sanctions on Iranian oil imports.
The United States re-imposed the first phase of Iran sanctions on Tuesday, with one of the targets the country's automobile industry.
In addition, the U.S. is asking Japan and other countries to end imports of crude oil from Iran by November.
Seko told reporters on Tuesday that Japan has informed the U.S. of its basic position to prevent any negative impact on energy supply and Japanese business activities.
