It is time to “revitalize the Iranian economy”, parliament speaker promises

Iran to announce foreign currency policies soon: Larijani

July 30, 2018 - 20:36

TEHRAN – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Monday that policies on foreign currency will be announced soon.

“As far as I know, the job has been finalized,” Larijani said during a meeting with an economic transparency faction of the parliament.

The remarks by Larijani came after the fall of national currency reached an unprecedented level on Sunday.

Larijani said the current situation is the "time to revitalize the Iranian economy”.

Larijani, a scholar-turned politician, said, “Management of the country should be based on economic science.”

Elsewhere, he attached great importance to comprehensive fight against corruption.

Countering corruption should be only aimed at countering wrong deeds and promoting efficiency of the system rather than achieving certain political objectives.

Elsewhere, he said that Iran is holding talks with the remaining parties to the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to avoid economic pressure against the people.

Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the multilateral nuclear agreement in May and ordered restoration of sanctions against Iran.

To save the multilateral agreement, the Joint Commission of the JCPOA met at the foreign ministerial level in Vienna on July 6. EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, who chaired the meeting, announced that Iran and the remaining parties had agreed to continue negotiations, including on economic measures, over how to keep the deal alive.

The entire world - excluding despots in Saudi Arabia and the UAE along with extremists in Israel - has expressed an unequivocal support for the preservation of the nuclear agreement without the U.S.

Back in April, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the U.S. Treasury Department has turned into an “economic war room” against Iran.

According to the U.S. Treasury, the first stage of sanctions will be snapped back in August and the primary ones in November.

Trump has asked countries to cut their oil imports from Iran by November.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced in May that the U.S. will apply economic and military pressure against Iran and will impose “the strongest sanctions in history” on the Islamic Republic.
