TEHRAN – The historical carpet bazaar of Mashhad will be restored to its former glory.

The bazaar is located adjacent to the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Khorasan Razavi province.

The project was jointly approved by the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, and Mashhad Municipality in a bid to foster urban space diversity and tourism, ISNA reported on Tuesday.

Rehabilitation of the marketplace will be in accordance with historical documents and evidence with regard to its proper use, the report added.

Some 30 million travelers and pilgrims visited Khorasan Razavi province during the past Iranian calendar year (March 2017-2018).
