“Play Strindberg” to commemorate Hamid Samandarian
TEHRAN – Kurosh Sasanian will direct a reading of Swiss writer Friedrich Durrenmatt’s 1969 play “Play Strindberg” at Tehran’s Naser Khosrow Theater today to in memory of Iranian stage director and playwright, Hamid Samandarian, who translated the play into Persian in 1972.
Sasanian, Elena Ahi and Javad Inanlu are the members of the cast for the play. Narrator Donya Babaolya and composer Abuzar Hemmati also are collaborating in the reading performance.
“Play Strindberg” is a free adaptation of August Strindberg’s “The Dance of Death”, using Strindberg’s characters.
The comedy play is about a couple, Alice and Edgar, who are disappointed by their careers, children and life, until Alice’s cousin Kurt arrives after a 15-year absence.
Sasanian staged “Play Strindberg” at Tehran’s Sangelaj Hall with a different cast last year.
Samandarian died of liver cancer at the age of 81 in July 2012.
