Kharg oil terminal's capacity to increase by 700,000 bpd in 2 years
TEHRAN – Iran’s Kharg Island oil terminal capacity for receiving, storing and exporting of oil is set to increase by 700,000 barrels per day (bpd) in two years, IRNA reported on Tuesday quoting an oil official.
According to Pirouz Mousavi, the managing director of Iranian Oil Terminals Company (IOTC), the necessary infrastructures for such a growth are being prepared in the terminal.
Iran exported 800 million barrels of crude oil from Kharg Island terminal in south part of the country during the last Iranian calendar year 1396 (ended on March 20).
Due to its close distance to oilfield regions, its good offshore position and suitable depth for gigantic oil vessels berthing, Kharg Island oil terminal has been recognized as one of the country’s most suitable places for crude oil export and loading sites.
According to the official, Iran is currently exporting about 2.6 million bpd of crude oil and gas condensate, most of which is being shipped from Kharg terminal.
