615 worn-out passenger wagons scrapped in a year

TEHRAN - Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (IRIR) scrapped 615 worn-out passenger wagons last year, IRNA reported on Monday quoting an IRIR official.

According to Mojtaba Tafaghodi, IRIR’s deputy director for fleet affairs, by doing so the average age of the IRIR’ fleet of passenger wagons fell by about 10 years, and according to plans, by the end of the Iranian calendar month of Tir (July 22), some 397 worn-out passenger wagons will be scrapped.

IRIR is planning to reduce its fleet age range to 20 years by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20).
