Top contributors to the preservation and promotion of the name of Persian Gulf were awarded in a ceremony in Tehran on Monday.

The day has been designated to fight Arab states’ attempt to misappropriate the gulf’s name.

The body of water is historically and internationally known as the Persian Gulf. Some Arab governments in recent years started to refer to it as the “Arabian Gulf”. Some Western media prefer to keep to “The Gulf”. But neither term is recognized internationally. The name “Gulf of Iran (Persian Gulf)” is used by the International Hydrographic Organization.
